CHRISTOS GORTSOS

Christos Gortsos is Associate Professor of International Economic Law at the Panteion University of Athens. He is teaching international and European monetary and financial law as well as economic analysis of law.

He studied law, economics and finance at the University of Athens, the University of Zürich, the Wharton Business School (University of Pennsylvania) and the Graduate Institute of International Studies of the University of Geneva, where he was awarded his PhD on the subject of international banking regulation (1996). During the period 1996-1998 he worked as research assistant at the International Center for Monetary and Banking Studies of the University of Geneva.

Professor Gortsos is the author of several books and articles on international, European and Hellenic financial and monetary law. His work includes the following monographies:

· International and Regional Regimes for the Prudential Regulation of International Banks (PhD thesis, 1996)
- The Greek Banking System (second edition, 1998)
- International, European and Hellenic Banking and Monetary Law (in greek, 1999)
- The Hellenic Deposit Guarantee Scheme (second edition, in greek, 2000)
- European Monetary Law (in greek, 2004)
- International Economic Law (in cooperation with Professor K.A. Stephanou, in greek, 2006)
- European Banking Law – Introduction to Hellenic Capital Markets Law (in greek, forthcoming).

In 2005 he has been accepted as a full member of the Monetary Committee of the International Law Association (MoComILA), and since 2007 he is a Member of the Financial Services Experts Group of the European Parliament.

Apart from his academic curriculum, Professor Gortsos, a member of the Athens Bar Association, after having worked for 10 years (1991-2000) as Special Legal Advisor on International and European Law and Coordinator of the Euro Steering Committee of the Hellenic Bank Association, in July 2000 has been elected its Secretary General. In this capacity he currently serves, among others, as:

- Vice-President of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Deposit Guarantee Fund, ·        
- Μember of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Capital Market Commission, and ·        
- Member of the Board of Directors of the national automated clearinghouse (DIAS Interbank Systems SA).
