SOTIRIS ROUSSOS

Sotiris Roussos is Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science and International Relations of the University of Peloponnese and Head of the Centre for Mediterranean and Middle Eastern Studies at the Institute of International Relations, in Athens.

Born in Elefsina, in 1967. He obtained a BA in History at the University of Athens and an MA in Near and Middle East Area Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. In 1991 he was awarded with the Scholarship of Alexander S. Onassis Foundation and, in 1994, he obtained a Doctorate in Modern History of the Middle East at the School of Oriental and African Studies.

He served as Senior Middle East Expert at the Greek Foreign Ministry, Special Advisor and Head of the Political Cabinet of the Foreign Minister Theodore Pangalos. He is author and co-author of books on regional security in South Eurasia and the Middle East, the Third World, the encounter of the West with political Islam and of a number of articles on Christians in the Orient, the Arab-Israeli conflict and the US policy in the Middle East.
