The Department of International and European Studies (IES) of the Panteion University has been offering a postgraduate studies programme (M.A. and PhD) in the field of International and European Studies since academic year 1994 - 1995, in co-operation with the Institute of International Relations (IIR).
The M.A. programme is two years in duration, in accordance with the provisions of Law 2083/92 as it is in force today, and leads to the award of a Master’s degree in International and European Studies, in one of the following specialisations:
Graduates of Departments of International and European Studies, Law, Political Science, Public Administration, Communications and the Mass Media, Economics, History, and Translation and Interpretation from universities in Greece or equivalent institutions abroad are eligible to apply for admission in the Department’s Master’s degree program. For the specialisation "International Relations and Strategic Studies" in particular, officers on active duty in the armed forces of Greece or other countries are also eligible, provided they have secured written permission from their services for the entire duration of the postgraduate program. The decision on admission is reached by an Academic Committee which may impose admission exams for specific categories of graduates.
In the application for admission, the candidate indicates the specialisation he or she wishes to follow. Candidates are obliged, together with a copy of their degree, to submit a transcript of their marks for the total of their studies. A general degree designation of at least "very good" (7/10) (B+) and a mark of at least eight (8/10) (A-) is required in at least three courses in international and European studies, or a total of twenty-four (24) marks in three courses. Students who are in the last year of undergraduate studies may also apply and must attach transcripts from seven (7) semesters of study.
Graduates of foreign universities are obliged to submit proof of passive knowledge of Greek and academic equivalence of their first degree from DOATAP. Foreign students are allowed to submit their papers and their final dissertation in English or French.
Advanced / Proficiency in English and / or in French is required, according to the specialisation, certified either by the possession of an undergraduate or postgraduate degree from a foreign country, or by the possession of proof of competence in the English Language (Cambridge Proficiency, TOEFL with at least 550/213 points) or the French language (Sorbonne II or DALF for the first foreign language and Sorbonne I or DELF for the second foreign language).
Graduates and graduating students who meet the academic requirements but do not possess any of the above degrees or other proof of proficiency in foreign languages are required to take a one-hour test of language proficiency which includes translation of a text from an English or French newspaper or magazine.
Candidates who pass the language proficiency test, as well as holders of other language degrees and qualifications are subsequently interviewed. The Selection Committee will choose up to 15 successful candidates for each specialisation. The Selection Committee may oblige students who are initially accepted into the postgraduate program to take supplementary examinations.
Application are submitted during the month of May.
